Option 2: Bus to and from Johannesburg
Sugar Bay offers an escorted bus service between Sandton and Sugar Bay. Campers are accompanied by Sugar Bay counselors during the trip and the camp experience starts as soon as they step onto the bus.
The cost of the bus is R590 per child per trip (R1180 return), this price includes lunch. The bus journey is about 8 hours long but is made more enjoyable by our counselors so that the time flies by. The Bus departs from Sandton (please click on the link below for directions and full details) on the first day of camp at 07:00 and returns on the final day between 15:00 and 16:00.

If you would prefer to fly your children to Durban we do offer a shuttle between Sugar Bay and Durban International Airport. Campers are escorted to and from the airport by our counselors from the time they walk through the doors on arrival until they go through to board the plane. Parents are requested to book flights that land in Durban between 12:00 and 13:00 on the day of arrival and depart Durban between 12:00 and 13:00 on the day of departure. The cost of the airport shuttle is R150 per child per trip (R300 return). If the flights are outside our collection times then transport to and from the resort must be arranged privately. Tuck Shop

Sugar Bay runs on a cash free system so campers do not need to carry any cash with them. When you enrol your child you will be asked what amount you would like to deposit into your child's savings account and this will then be added onto your invoice. If there is any money left in this account, we can refund to your bank account, credit card or carry over to your child's next stay with us. During tuck shop sessions they will be able to purchase items from our tuck shop up to the value of the amount deposited. Please note that the cost of paintball bullets is deducted from this account as well. Bullets cost 50 cents each and a maximum of 180 bullets is allowed per camper. Also avalable are a number of souveniers and novel sports equipment including poi and hackysacks.

Valuables

If your child brings valuables with them we can lock them away for safe keeping and they will be returned to your child at the end of camp. Items such as wallets, iPods or PSPs are often brought with for the bus trip. If your child does bring a cell phone with them they will also be locked in our safe until their departure day.

Medical:

Medical Aid and Travel Insurance
Sugar Bay requires you to provide us with Medical Aid details in case of an emergency and your child is required to visit the doctor or needs to be taken to the hospital. If you do not have Medical Aid, then we request that you take out a Travel Insurance Policy for your child for the duration of their stay.

You may use your Credit Card as surety for the doctor’s expenses and medication from a pharmacy but not for a medical emergency. If you do not have Medical Aid or take out Medical Travel Insurance and your child needs emergency medical treatment at a hospital or needs to be transported in an ambulance they will be taken to a government hospital.

Prescribed Medication
Please send any prescribed medication with your children. Please mark the medication with you child's name, the dosage and the frequency of the dosage. All medication (including vitamins and personal headache tablets) are to be handed in to our infirmary for safe keeping. Infirmary is open for dispensing of medication after every meal, unless prior arrangements have been made for other dosing times. Please plan ahead and ensure that you send enough medication for the duration of their stay as we do not have a pharmacy in Zinkwazi Beach.
Allergies and Medical Conditions
Please indicate clearly on our Family Registration Form any allergies or medical conditions your child may suffer from as well as any medication they may be taking. The more detail you provide us with the better prepared we can be if an emergency arises.
Infirmary
We have an infirmary stocked with basic first aid materials and medication for common ailments such as headaches and stings. If your child requires any specific medication due to allergies please send it with them. If your child is very sick we will arrange that they see one of our on-call doctors.

Communication:

Cell Phones
It is common policy for cell phones to not be allowed at summer camps around the world. This is for both safety reasons so that the phones do not get damaged or stolen while they are at Sugar Bay and that they cause a distraction to the children which can lead to unsociable behaviour and detract from their enjoyment of camp.
We STRONGLY recommend that you do not telephone your child while they are away. This is in the best interest of your child, and your co-operation is appreciated.

E-mail or fax
We do recommend that you either fax or e-mail your child. These communications are handed out at meal times. PLEASE DO NOT EXPECT A REPLY! Children are free to reply at any time, but tend not to do so as they are far too busy having FUN! Fax them on: (032) 485 3098, or e-mail them at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
