Sugar Bay camp turns 25 in August 2026, and we are celebrating the only way a kids-only holiday camp should: with two full weeks of themed adventure, campfires, cabin memories, beachside fun and a few surprises along the way.
For 25 years, Sugar Bay has welcomed children and teenagers to our sleepover camp in
Zinkwazi Beach on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast. Some arrive for their very first camp nervous and quiet. Others come back year after year already planning which activities they want to do first. By the end of the week, they usually leave with new friends, sandy shoes, tired smiles and stories that carry on long after the drive home.

Two August camps, one big birthday month
August 2026 is not just another school holiday season at Sugar Bay. It marks 25 years since camp first opened, and these two weeks have been shaped around that milestone.
The first week brings a darker, mysterious and creative camp theme with Wednesday Week. The second week shifts into colour, candy, birthday celebrations and messy fun with Sweet & Sour Week.
They are very different themes, which is exactly what makes August exciting. One week leans into mystery, courage and belonging. The next turns up the sweetness with team challenges, candy-inspired games and Sugar Bay’s 25th birthday celebration.
For parents looking for a kids holiday camp in South Africa, a KZN school holiday camp, or a supervised sleepover camp near Durban and Ballito, these August weeks offer a strong mix of structure, freedom, adventure and themed fun.
Wednesday Week: 9 to 16 August 2026
Wednesday Week runs from 9 to 16 August 2026 at Sugar Bay Holiday Camp.
This theme is built around mystery, music, creativity, courage and belonging. Campers step into a spooky, slightly strange and very playful storyline that unfolds throughout the week. Each day has its own focus, with clues, cabin challenges, themed activities and evening programmes adding to the atmosphere.
The week includes themes such as magic, music, courage, nature, celebration and belonging. Campers can expect creative challenges, campfire moments, performance-style activities, cabin tasks and a mystery that builds through the programme.
Wednesday Week is especially suited to children and teens who enjoy stories, puzzles, music, spooky-but-fun themes, creative activities and a camp week with a bit more personality. It is also a lovely option for campers who sometimes feel a little different, because the heart of the week is about confidence, individuality and finding your place in the group.
The camp fee Early Bird Price is R9 999, with an optional Camp Out excursion at R150.

Sweet & Sour Week: 16 to 23 August 2026
Sweet & Sour Week runs from 16 to 23 August 2026 and is the big birthday week of August.
This week transforms camp into a colourful world of candy-themed games, messy challenges, team points and birthday celebrations. Campers will move through sweet-inspired days such as marshmallow, jelly, coloured candy, biscuit and chocolate day, each with its own sour twist.
The theme is led by Captain Candy and Sour Sam, two playful mascots who bring the sweet and sour sides of the week to life. Campers earn points for their teams during challenges and evening programmes, building towards the final Sweet vs Sour moment later in the week.
Saturday is the main birthday celebration, with a chocolate-themed carnival, sweet prizes, team games, campfire traditions and Sugar Bay’s 25th birthday energy across camp. Sugar Bay will also reveal some exciting new activities during the week, giving campers a first look at what is being added to the camp experience.
The camp fee Early Bird Price is R9 999, with an optional Golden Mile excursion in Durban at R400.

Why August is a great time to book Sugar Bay
August on the KZN North Coast gives campers a proper break away from routine. Sugar Bay is based in Zinkwazi Beach, close to Ballito, Durban and King Shaka International Airport, which makes it accessible for families from KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and other parts of South Africa.
At camp, children get space to be active, social and independent in a supervised environment. They can choose between over 100 activities, join cabin games, take part in evening programmes, spend time outdoors and experience a week without the usual school-holiday screen routine.
For many parents, the best part is that Sugar Bay gives children freedom within structure. Campers are encouraged to try new things, but they are not left to manage the week on their own. Counselors guide them through cabin life, meals, activities, friendships and the normal ups and downs of being away from home.

Which August camp should you choose?
Wednesday Week is the better fit if your child enjoys mystery, music, stories, spooky themes, creative challenges and a week with a slightly darker sense of fun.
Sweet & Sour Week is the better fit if your child loves colour, big energy, team games, birthday celebrations, messy fun and a sweeter, louder camp atmosphere.
Both weeks still include the classic Sugar Bay experience: cabin life, outdoor activities, evening programmes, campfires, friendships, beachside adventure and supervised independence.
Some families may even choose to book both August weeks, especially if their child loves themed camps and wants the full 25th birthday month experience.
