The Only Winter Camp Where Kids Use Bottle Caps as Currency | Week 2: Upcoming Sugar Bay Camp | Fallout Week | 6 - 13 July 2025

For many parents, school holidays can feel like a balancing act—finding meaningful, safe experiences that also bring joy, excitement, and growth for your child. At Sugar Bay, we believe that a school holiday should be more than just time off; it should be a time of discovery, independence, and lasting memories. That’s exactly what we offer during Fall Out Week, taking place from 6–13 July 2025, at our exclusive children-only resort on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast.

Sugar Bay is South Africa’s only camp modelled on the American summer camp concept, with over 20 years of experience providing unforgettable holiday programmes for children aged 7 to 17. What sets us apart is our dedicated focus on child development, recreation, and safety in a space created specifically for children. Our resort was purpose-built for this very reason—to give children a chance to explore, play, and grow in a setting that’s as secure as it is exciting.

We understand the hesitation some parents might feel about sending their child to camp during winter. But the good news is, Sugar Bay’s winter is nothing like the chilly conditions in other parts of the country. Thanks to our warm, coastal climate, the weather in July is ideal—mild enough to enjoy outdoor activities without the intense summer heat. In fact, our campers still enjoy all the classic Sugar Bay experiences, including water sports, lagoon swims, lilo floating, and surfing. It’s the perfect season for active, outdoor fun.

Fall Out Week is one of our most imaginative themed weeks, inspired by the popular Fallout game series and brought to life in a child-friendly, creative, and energetic way. Throughout the week, campers earn Nuka Cola bottle caps by participating in challenges, completing activities, and showcasing teamwork, effort, and creativity. These bottle caps become their in-camp currency, used to purchase paintball bullets for our all-camp paintball tournament and to access games and treats during our lively end-of-week Carnival Night.

The week’s programme includes a wide variety of activities to suit every interest. Highlights include daily paintball matches, survival skill sessions, haunted house-style team challenges, music and game nights, fort-building adventures, and a pool party to top it all off. The experience is guided by our camp mascot, Vault Boy, portrayed by a dedicated counsellor, who keeps campers engaged with updates, missions, and light-hearted challenges throughout the week.

For first-time families, it’s important to know that safety is our absolute priority. Sugar Bay maintains a 1:3 staff-to-camper ratio, offering the highest level of supervision in the country. Our staff are not only trained in first aid and CPR, but are also carefully selected for their experience working with children and their understanding of youth development. Lifeguards accompany all water-based activities, and our on-site medical officer is always on duty. From sunrise to bedtime, campers are in caring, professional hands.

At Sugar Bay, we create an environment where children feel encouraged to be themselves, try new things, and form meaningful friendships. Campers leave with increased confidence, resilience, and independence—qualities that benefit them long after the week ends.

Fall Out Week isn’t just a themed camp; it’s a full holiday experience tailored to give your child a break from screens, structure, and city life. It’s a place where imagination takes centre stage, and learning comes naturally through play and participation. Most importantly, it’s a place where your child can truly be a child—free to explore, discover, and have the time of their life.
