What Is Sugar Bay?

Sugar Bay is South Africa’s only children-only holiday camp, inspired by the American summer camp model and purpose-built to give children aged 7 to 17 a safe and structured space to grow, explore, and play. Located in the tropical surrounds of KwaZulu-Natal’s Dolphin Coast, the resort offers over 100 activities, daily entertainment, and unique weekly themes that bring something new to every visit.

We’ve been doing this for over 20 years—and our reputation for excellence in childcare, education, and safety has made us the camp of choice for thousands of South African families.

Safety You Can Trust

We understand that sending your child away from home is a big decision. That’s why safety is our top priority. Sugar Bay maintains a 1:3 staff-to-camper ratio, the highest in the country. Our counsellors are trained in child development, Emergency First Aid, and CPR, with additional lifeguards present during all beach, lagoon, and pool activities. Campers are supervised 24/7, and every part of the camp is designed with children’s well-being and age-appropriate development in mind.

Parents can relax knowing that their child is cared for, encouraged, and having a fantastic time in a secure environment.

Why Chile Week?

Chile Week is a celebration of culture, creativity, and connection. Each day focuses on a different aspect of Chilean tradition—from food and language to dance, mythology, and sport. Campers will not only enjoy their favourite Sugar Bay adventures, but will also explore new perspectives through hands-on activities, themed games, and festive evening programmes.

This unique camp theme blends educational fun with adventure and creativity, making it ideal for parents looking to give their children something more than just another holiday.

What About Winter?

We know what you might be thinking—a winter camp in July? Isn’t it too cold for outdoor fun?

Not at Sugar Bay.

Our warm, subtropical location makes this the perfect season for camp activities. It’s not too hot and not too cold—just right for beach games, surfing, lagoon swims, and open-air fun.

Winter at Sugar Bay looks a lot like summer anywhere else. Your child will still be enjoying:

  • Surfing and lilo floating

  • Water slides and pool games

  • Outdoor sports and group challenges

  • Evening campfires under starry skies

The Sugar Bay Difference

Sugar Bay isn’t just another school holiday camp. It’s a place where children grow in independence, build confidence, and make lifelong friendships. Through carefully curated programming, engaging counsellors, and diverse activities, we create a holiday experience that is enriching and fun in equal measure.

Every week is unique, but the core experience remains the same: children leave better than they arrived, with stories to tell and memories to treasure.
