F1 Week at Sugar Bay runs from 4–9 December 2026 in Zinkwazi Beach on South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal North Coast. This residential holiday camp for children and teenagers aged 7–17 combines a racing theme with Sugar Bay’s outdoor activities and life in a cabin with other campers.

The racing centres on handmade cars, creative projects and team games. Each cabin will build and decorate its own car, earn materials through challenges and prepare for a final race at camp. It is a shared project that gives children something to do together, whether their favourite part is the racing, the designing or working out how to make it all fit.

Building a car together

Cabins start with a basic frame and a box. Over the week, they earn points through games and challenges, then use their rewards to choose extra building materials and decorations.

That gives the team something to work towards between activities. What should the car look like, and how will everyone’s ideas fit into one design? Campers have time during the week to build, paint and make their car their own before testing it for race day.

Helmet-making and design activities carry the theme further. A child who enjoys drawing can contribute to the team’s look, while someone who likes practical projects can get involved in putting the car together.

Pit-stop challenges and race-night games

The programme includes a pit-stop tyre relay, reaction games and race-themed challenges. These give cabins more chances to earn rewards for their cars while working together away from the building area.

Evening activities are planned for the different age sections. Juniors have a Driver Academy with reaction tests, obstacle races and team challenges. Intermediates tackle a race investigation, gathering clues and interviewing witnesses. Seniors get a press-conference improv challenge, with campers taking turns as reporters and interviewees.

The build-up leads to qualifying races and a final around Sugar Bay’s Main Hall Circuit. The week also includes a themed prize-giving dinner and a final campfire before departure on 9 December.

The rest of the camp experience

The F1 theme runs alongside Sugar Bay’s regular free-choice activity programme. Campers choose activities daily from a range of more than 100 options, including kayaking, bodyboarding, climbing, archery and creative arts. Children can spend time on interests they already enjoy and try something new.

For a first-time camper, the cabin project offers something specific to get involved in and talk about with the group. Parents can also read Sugar Bay’s parent FAQ for information about settling in, homesickness and how the team keeps families updated.

Counselors stay overnight in the cabins, and the camp provides 24-hour supervision. The FAQ explains the team’s training and the arrangements for activities, including water safety. If your child has a particular support need, speak to the team before booking so you can discuss it properly.

Dates, price and travel

F1 Week runs from 4–9 December 2026. With accommodation, meals and equipment covered by the camp fee, parents can plan the residential stay without arranging those parts separately.

Transport is charged separately. The return coach service from Sandton costs R2 500, including one meal in each direction. Confirm your travel arrangements and review the booking terms when reserving a place. The early-bird price applies while the offer remains active.

Book F1 Week

If your child would enjoy building a car with their cabin and joining a week of outdoor camp activities, start your F1 Week booking. Select 4–9 December 2026 and ask the team about any travel or first-camp questions before you finalise the arrangements.

Questions parents ask

Does my child need to be an F1 fan?

Race fans will recognise the theme, but the programme also includes car design, painting, clue-solving, improv and team relays. Children who enjoy making things or working through challenges with a group have plenty to join in with.

What if this is my child’s first overnight camp?

Counselors stay overnight in the cabins, and staff help homesick newcomers settle in. Read the parent FAQ and camp packing list, then speak to the team about any specific concerns before booking.

What should I budget for beyond the camp fee?

Transport is separate from the camp fee. The return Sandton coach is R2 500, including one meal each way. Check the live booking form for your chosen arrangements and the current early-bird offer.
