What is Sugar Bay?

Sugar Bay is a children-only sleepover holiday camp for ages 7–17 in Zinkwazi Beach, on KwaZulu-Natal’s North Coast, South Africa. Children stay at camp without their parents, share cabins with campers of a similar age and spend their days taking part in activities with trained counselors.

Families book directly with us. Your child can come with a friend or sibling, or arrive on their own; counselors help newcomers settle in and get to know their cabin group. We’ve been welcoming campers since 2001.

What will your child do at camp?

Campers choose their activities each day from a programme with more than 100 options. They might try surfing or kayaking, spend time on BMX or climbing, or choose arts and crafts, dance and team sports. They can return to a favourite activity or try something they’ve never done before.

Each session has a theme that adds games, creative projects and evening events to the regular camp programme. Children have choices throughout their stay, with activities suited to their age, ability and the day’s conditions.

Where they stay, and who looks after them

  • Cabins with counselors overnight. Wooden cabins have bunk beds, en-suite bathrooms and bedding supplied. Cabin groups are arranged by grade, with children of similar ages and gender together.

  • 24-hour supervision. Trained counselors lead activities and look after campers during meals, cabin time and overnight. Qualified lifeguards supervise water activities.

  • Support while they settle in. Counselors and Camp Mom help with homesickness, friendships and everyday worries. A nurse-run Health Centre and a doctor on call provide medical support.

  • Updates for parents. Campers hand in phones on arrival. Parents receive daily WhatsApp updates and can contact the office during the stay.

Accommodation, bedding, three meals a day, regular camp activities, equipment and supervision are included in the camp fee. Read the first-time parent guide for a closer look at camp life.
