Every cabin has a show to create during Neon Week at Sugar Bay. Campers will collect glow sticks through games and challenges, practise together during the week and use what they have earned to decorate their outfits for the Neon Glow Show Finale.

This sleepover holiday camp runs from 16–23 December 2026 for children and teens aged 7–17, in Zinkwazi Beach on South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal North Coast. Alongside the cabin performances, there are UV art projects, glow games and Sugar Bay’s regular outdoor activities.

A glow show made by the campers

The finale starts taking shape early in the week. Cabins have time during the week to practise their performances, with help from the counselors and Ultra, the theme’s DJ character.

Games give campers chances to earn more glow sticks for their outfits. Sparky, a firefly character, hides glow treasures around camp, while Vex the Void has markings that only appear under black light. These characters join in throughout the week and return for the final show.

Chalking and graffiti-style art give campers more ways to experiment with colour during the day. There is time to work on ideas together, rehearse and see what other cabins have been making before everyone gathers for the finale.

Glow games for each age group

The evening programme is planned for Sugar Bay’s different age sections, so younger campers and teenagers have activities suited to them.

Juniors will watch a blacklight puppet show, then make puppets of their own to take home. A neon science evening includes glow slime, UV-reactive liquids and invisible ink. Later in the week, a glow scavenger hunt sends them around camp following clues to find the theme characters.

Intermediates get a life-sized arcade with physical versions of games such as Pac-Man and Whack-a-Mole. In Recharge the Grid, they will follow UV-lit clues and solve an escape-room challenge to get the lights back on. Neon versions of minute-to-win-it games add more team challenges.

Older campers can try painting with colours revealed under UV light. A beach evening includes a talk about bioluminescence and marine life, stargazing and a chance to try glow poi and staff spinning.

A colourful themed dinner and party night are also planned during Neon Week.

Outdoor camp during the day

Neon Week runs alongside Sugar Bay’s free-choice activity programme. Campers choose their activities daily from a programme with more than 100 options, including kayaking, bodyboarding, climbing, archery and creative arts. A child who enjoys making things can spend time on art and still try something outdoors.

Campers stay in en-suite wooden cabins with linen supplied. Counselors stay in the cabins overnight, and Sugar Bay provides 24-hour supervision. Qualified lifeguards supervise water activities. Parents can read the parent FAQ for more about supervision, homesickness and staying in touch during camp.

Questions before booking

Does my child have to enjoy performing?

There are no compulsory activities at Sugar Bay. Neon Week also has crafts, clue-solving and physical games, as well as the regular daytime choices. If your child is nervous about joining in, or has particular support needs, speak to the team before booking so you can discuss what would help.

What should we pack?

Comfortable older clothes are useful for active days and creative projects. Pack with your child so they know what is in their bag, label their belongings and include a small day bag, water bottle and takkies. Use the 2026 Sugar Bay packing guide for the full checklist, swimwear requirements and items to leave at home.
