If there’s one thing every parent hopes for their child, it’s for them to find real, lasting friendships; the kind that go beyond screens, schools, and schedules. At Sugar Bay, we’ve always believed that childhood should be filled with laughter, connection, and moments that turn into memories. This December, our Besties Week (4–9 December 2025) celebrates exactly that; friendship, fun, and the magic of belonging.
Inspired by Friends, Designed for Real Connection
This themed camp week takes inspiration from the beloved sitcom Friends, reminding us that laughter, teamwork, and shared experiences build bonds that last a lifetime. But unlike the TV show, this story unfolds in real life; under the warm KZN sun, with sandy feet, campfires, and new best friends.
Each day is designed to spark connection. Campers will join team-building games, friendship challenges, and creativity-filled projects; from decorating tote bags that friends add to, to creating personalized friendship bracelets and t-shirts with hugging handprints.
There’s even a Bestie Bingo, a fun daily challenge that gets kids talking, laughing, and discovering what makes each new friend unique. Polaroid cameras will capture the joy along the way, with photos becoming treasured keepsakes to take home.
New to Sugar Bay?
Based on the American Summer Camp model, Sugar Bay stands out head and shoulders above every other South African camp since 2001. We are the only resort in South Africa that has been specifically designed and built as a children-only resort. Holiday camps are our primary specialty, and school tours are a secondary service that we offer out of the holiday season.
We offer sleepover camps for children between the ages of 7 and 17 years old. Our various transport options allow kids and teens from all over South Africa, and from all over the world, to enjoy the best school holiday they've ever had. We offer over 100 activities, and have a free choice system, in which children may choose what activities they want to participate in. There are no compulsory activities.
We make each and every week completely different from any other by giving it a unique theme. We introduce new activities, an extravagant themed dinner, and unforgettable weekly highlights to suit each theme. All these are in addition to our normal over 100 activities.
What to Expect During Besties Week
Friendship Focus: Every day is about bonding, team spirit, and celebrating friendship. From obstacle courses to group challenges, campers will build trust and teamwork while having fun.
Tote Bag Project: Each camper receives a tote bag to decorate. Friends add their own personal touch using symbols like hearts or stars to create one-of-a-kind keepsakes.
Bestie Bingo: Daily games that get everyone laughing, sharing stories, and earning prizes for creativity and teamwork.
Polaroid Memories: Campers will use Polaroid cameras to capture their new friendships, and each cabin gets time to create a memory wall of the week’s best moments.
All-Camp Games: Big, outdoor group challenges like relay races, tug of war, and “Guess Their Fav” bring energy and excitement to the day.
Creative Friendship Crafts:
Friendship bracelets made with alphabet beads.
Friendship t-shirts with hugging handprints.
Picture frame decorating to take home as a memory.
Themed Nights:
Bestie Bonfire Stories where campers share funny or heartwarming friendship moments.
Bestie Night Mission scavenger hunt for friendship clues.
Party Night and Fire Show with a photo booth and friendship-themed playlist.
Final Campfire where campers and counselors share memories and sign Polaroid photos.
Food & Fun Extras: From friendship mocktails and chocolate chip cookies to ice cream with Oreo toppings, the week is packed with small treats that make big memories.

Safety & Security
Our 1:3 staff-to-child ratio is the highest in the country, and 24-hour supervision ensures that your children are kept extra safe while having the time of their lives. Our camp counselors are specifically trained and experienced in the growth and developmental needs of the different age groups, as well as Emergency First Aid & CPR. We also have our own qualified lifeguards who accompany the children to the beach, lagoon, and swimming pool.
