If your child has ever tied a towel around their shoulders and leapt off the couch believing they could save the world, Marvel Week at Sugar Bay will feel like stepping straight into that imagination.
From 01 to 06 April 2026, Sugar Bay Holiday Resort on the North Coast of KwaZulu Natal transforms into a world of superheroes, team challenges and big, laughter filled days. Campers are divided into teams and spend the week earning points through themed challenges inspired by characters such as Spiderman, Superman and Captain America. Those points build toward a grand, all camp finale that brings everyone together in a supervised capture the flag style tomato and ball game on the field.

For parents who have never heard of Sugar Bay before, it is a well established holiday camp based in Zinkwazi Beach, welcoming children and teens from across South Africa and abroad. Camps run during every school holiday, and each week carries its own carefully planned theme. One week might centre around music, another around adventure, and during Marvel Week the entire property is styled around superheroes. The main hall is transformed, counsellors step into character, and the daily programme is infused with energy and imagination.

What makes this week special is how the theme is woven into real experiences. Spiderman hosts climbing challenges such as the advanced climbing wall and crate building. Superman leads speed based activities like running, swimming and relay races. Captain America focuses on balance and endurance through slackline and surf style challenges. Children are not only pretending to be brave. They are climbing higher, running faster and steadying themselves in ways that quietly build confidence.

There are ice breaker evenings, themed lunches, beach moments, team sessions and a final campfire to close the week. Points are tracked throughout. Teams work together. Counselors guide and supervise every activity. The excitement is real, but so is the structure behind it.
For a parent, the appeal is not simply the spectacle of superheroes in the dining hall. It is the way a theme like Marvel becomes a framework for teamwork, resilience and belonging. Children who are shy find their place within a team. Energetic children have an outlet. Creative children embrace the costumes and storytelling. Everyone has a role.
Sugar Bay has built its reputation on combining adventure with safety and thoughtful programming. Weekly themes such as Marvel Week are not gimmicks. They are immersive experiences designed to help children step outside their comfort zones, make meaningful friendships and return home with stories they cannot wait to tell.
For a child, it feels like 5 days inside a comic book. For a parent, it is the reassurance that behind the masks and capes is a camp that understands how to turn imagination into growth.
