Disney Zombies Week at Sugar Bay Camp: 27 September to 4 October 2026

There comes a point in the school year when everyone in the house needs a reset.

The lunchboxes are tired. The school shoes have seen better days. Parents are counting down to the holidays just as much as the kids are, even if nobody says it out loud. That is where a proper camp week helps. Not just a place to keep children busy, but a full change of scenery, with new friends, fresh air, movement, music and enough activity to send them home with real stories.

From 27 September to 4 October 2026, Sugar Bay Camp in Zinkwazi Beach, KwaZulu-Natal, will host Disney Zombies Week, a high-energy 7-day holiday camp inspired by the colourful world of cheer, dance, sport, performance and team spirit.

It is bold. It is playful. It is a little weird in the best camp way. Most importantly, it gives children and teens a chance to throw themselves into a week where being different is part of the fun.

Sugar Bay is a kids-only sleepover camp for children and teenagers aged 7 to 17, set on the KZN North Coast near Ballito, Durban and King Shaka International Airport. Campers stay at camp, choose between a wide range of activities, join evening programmes, meet new friends and enjoy a week away in a supervised environment.

What is Disney Zombies Week about?

Disney Zombies Week at Sugar Bay is built around the things kids love in the Zombies world: music, energy, team colours, friendly rivalry, performance, sport and the idea that everyone has something to bring to the group.

Campers will be split into two main teams, Pink and Green. Within those teams, they will also take on different roles such as cheerleaders, players and performers. During the week, they will practise, take part in challenges and build towards the final all-camp event.

That final event is the big moment of the week. Campers will come together for the Disney Zees Event, featuring a final match, cheerleading, dance performances and a special counselor performance. The goal is not to create one “perfect” winner. It is to give every camper a chance to feel like they contributed, tried something and became part of the story.

That matters more than parents sometimes realise. A week like this gives sporty children a place to run. It gives performers a place to shine. It gives quieter campers a role they can grow into. It gives the child who is not quite sure where they fit a team, a cabin group and a reason to join in.

A camp week with music, movement and team energy

Throughout the week, campers can expect a strong mix of cheerleading, dance-off challenges, sports and performance-style activities. Counselors will also get involved in dance challenges, building a playful “dance chain” that campers can use as inspiration for their own choreography.

This is not a week where campers have to be professional dancers, confident performers or sporty superstars. It is camp. The point is to take part, try, laugh, practise and enjoy the build-up with friends.

Opening day sets the tone with themed décor, pink and green colours, camp-style snacks, welcome games and ice-breakers. Campers can ease into the week through activities like karaoke, drumming, sumo wrestling, jumping castle fun, air hockey and face painting.

That first day is important, especially for new campers. It gives children a way to meet people without the awkward “so, what do we talk about?” feeling. There is always something happening, which makes it easier to settle in.

What campers can expect during the week

The week has a full programme of themed moments, evening activities and camp traditions.

Campers can expect music games, dance challenges, team activities, sports-inspired fun and chilled evening sessions. Juniors and seniors will enjoy age-appropriate programmes, with activities such as Zega Party games, Zomball, karaoke, talk-show style conversations, 9 Square, campfire, lip-sync battles, glow-stick dancing, Party Night and the Fire Show.

There is also a planned excursion to uShaka Marine, giving campers a Durban day out as part of the holiday experience. Campers who remain at camp will still have their own stay-in programme, including creative time such as canvas painting with music and drinks.

Later in the week, campers will prepare for the final match and performances. Friday brings Party Night and the Fire Show, while Saturday ends with the Disney Zees Event and Final Campfire.

By the time Sunday arrives, campers will have had a full week of team challenges, cabin memories, camp traditions and the kind of fun that does not come from another day at home on a screen.

Why this week works for different kinds of kids

One of the best parts of a themed camp week is that it gives children a shared world to step into.

Some campers arrive full of confidence. Some arrive quietly and take a little time. Some love sport. Some love music. Some would rather help their team practise than stand in the front row. Disney Zombies Week has space for all of that.

The cheer side of the theme gives energetic kids a place to move. The sports side gives active campers something to work towards. The performance side gives creative campers a chance to be seen. The team structure helps everyone feel included, because campers are not just attending the week. They are part of it.

For parents, that is often the real value of camp. Yes, the activities matter. Yes, the programme matters. But the bigger thing is watching a child come home with a little more independence, a few new stories and the confidence that they can manage a week away from home.

A supervised school holiday camp in KZN

Sugar Bay is based in Zinkwazi Beach on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast, making it a popular choice for families looking for a kids holiday camp in South Africa, a KZN school holiday camp, or a supervised sleepover camp near Durban and Ballito.

Campers are supported by trained counselors and follow a structured camp routine with meals, activities, evening programmes, cabin time and supervision throughout the week. The setting gives children the freedom to enjoy camp life, while parents have the reassurance that the week is planned and supervised.

Who should book Disney Zombies Week?

Disney Zombies Week is a great fit for children and teens who enjoy music, dance, sport, team games, themed activities and high-energy camp fun.

It is also a good option for first-time campers because the theme creates an easy way to join in. Campers do not need to arrive with a friend. They will be placed into teams, cabins and activities where they can meet other children and build connections during the week.

For returning campers, this week offers something fresh and theatrical, while still keeping the classic Sugar Bay rhythm: cabin life, campfires, evening programmes, outdoor fun, free-choice activities and friendships.
