At Sugar Bay Camp this October 2025 holiday, we’ve planned something extra special. It’s a week packed with laughter, creativity, courage, and more than a few chicken dances. This is not just any camp week — it’s the kind of week that wraps your child in joy, friendship, and a little bit of silliness. Think of it as a warm, musical hug — with a side of glitter, games, and goofiness.

🎶 What is Wooden Mic Week?
Inspired by the legendary “Wooden Mic” segment from Idols South Africa, this week celebrates not just talent — but courage, fun, and sheer enthusiasm. It’s about standing up, showing up, and letting your light shine — even if you sing off-key or forget the words halfway through. It’s perfect for kids who’ve always wanted a stage — and even more perfect for those who didn’t know they did.
And don’t worry — the performances are all voluntary, with lots of chances to practice and tons of support from our camp team. We’ll even have a special table of judges (selected by the kids!) to cheer them on during the final showcase.

New to Sugar Bay?
Based on the American Summer Camp model, Sugar Bay stands out head and shoulders above every other South African camp since 2001. We are the only resort in South Africa that has been specifically designed and built as a children-only resort. Holiday camps are our primary specialty, and school tours are a secondary service that we offer out of the holiday season.
We offer sleepover camps for children between the ages of 7 and 17 years old. Our various transport options allow kids and teens from all over South Africa, and from all over the world, to enjoy the best school holiday they've ever had. We offer over 100 activities, and have a free choice system, in which children may choose what activities they want to participate in. There are no compulsory activities.
We make each and every week completely different from any other by giving it a unique theme. We introduce new activities, an extravagant themed dinner, and unforgettable weekly highlights to suit each theme. All these are in addition to our normal over 100 activities.
🎤 Bingo Cards, Chicken Dances & Confidence
On arrival, your child will be given a wooden “Bingo” card, filled with fun performance challenges to complete throughout the week. Some are small (like reciting the ABCs while doing the chicken dance), some are silly (starting a conga line!), and others are beautifully bold (lip sync battles, dance-offs, and camp-wide karaoke).
Each completed challenge gets a stamp, and those brave enough to fill a row — or their whole card — will earn special prizes and recognition. More than anything, they’ll build resilience, creativity, and that oh-so-important ability to try something new.
🌟 Characters They’ll Never Forget
Sugar Bay knows how to make magic. Throughout the week, your child will meet:
The Bingo Master – A dazzling host in a sparkly blazer and top hat, who’ll keep energy high and spirits higher.
The Tally Master – A mysterious figure who counts the votes and updates the leaderboard (and listens when someone’s having a wobble or needs a moment to step back).
Even their down-time is filled with magic — from a “traveling sandal” they’ll decorate as a cabin, to afternoon siestas filled with crafts, chats, and new friendships.
🎉 Day by Day Magic
Sunday kicks things off with a warm Sugar Bay welcome — pizza, samosas, a dance floor, and the iconic Wooden Mic on display.
Monday to Thursday are packed with themed games, scavenger hunts, lip sync battles, musical chairs, and “drop the mic” showdowns.
Wednesday includes a trip to the Barnyard Theatre — a real stage to watch others shine!
Friday brings a big camp party and fire show under the stars.
Saturday ends with a pool party and the grand final performance. Expect goosebumps.
And Sunday, of course, we say goodbye (with misty eyes and sleepy smiles).

Safety & Security
Our 1:3 staff-to-child ratio is the highest in the country, and 24-hour supervision ensures that your children are kept extra safe while having the time of their lives. Our camp counselors are specifically trained and experienced in the growth and developmental needs of the different age groups, as well as Emergency First Aid & CPR. We also have our own qualified lifeguards who accompany the children to the beach, lagoon, and swimming pool.
